A crispy, flavour-packed lunch that's far easier than it looks.
If you're looking for something a little different from your usual sandwich, this recipe is worth saving. Our Zulekha Chapli Kebabs bring all the bold flavours of traditional Peshawari-style chapli kebabs, but with none of the prep. Just cook them in the air fryer or on a pan, then layer them into a crusty loaf with creamy garlic sauce, juicy tomatoes and a fresh onion salad.
Perfect for sharing, lunch with friends, or when you want something that looks impressive but takes very little effort.

Ingredients
- 1 Zulekha Chapli Kebabs
- 1 round crusty loaf
- 3-4 tbsp garlic mayo or spicy mayo
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 3-4 tbsp creamy garlic & herb sauce (or garlic yoghurt)
- ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
- Small handful fresh coriander, chopped
- 1 tsp sumac
- Squeeze of lemon juice
- Salt and black pepper
How to make:
1. Cook the Chapli kebabs
Cook the chapli kebabs straight from frozen.
Air Fryer: Cook according to the pack instructions until hot throughout and nicely browned.
Pan: Heat over a medium heat, turning occasionally until cooked through.
Set aside for a few minutes.

2. Prepare the bread
Slice the top off a round loaf and hollow out the middle, leaving enough bread around the edges to hold the filling.
Spread the garlic mayo generously over the base.

3. Add the first layer
Place one cooked chapli kebab into the bread bowl.
Top with slices of fresh tomato.

4. Add another kebab
Place the second chapli kebab on top and gently press everything down.
Pop the lid back onto the loaf if serving whole, or slice it straight down the middle to show off all the layers.

5. Finish with the creamy layer
Spoon over the garlic & herb sauce.
In a small bowl, mix together the sliced red onion, coriander, lemon juice and sumac, then add this on top.

Why it works
The crispy crust, juicy tomatoes, creamy garlic sauce and fresh onion salad balance perfectly with the rich, spiced chapli kebabs. Every bite has a mix of crunch, freshness and bold flavour.
It's one of those recipes that feels like something you'd order from a café, but takes only minutes to put together.

Tips
- Add lettuce or cucumber for extra crunch.
- Like a bit of heat? Swap the garlic mayo for chilli mayo or drizzle over chilli sauce.
- Feeding a crowd? Cut into quarters and serve as a sharing lunch.
- The leftover bread from the centre can be toasted into croutons or breadcrumbs.
